What is teak?
Teak is a tall, sturdy, evergreen tree indigenous to the tropical climate of South Eastern Asia. Indonesian Teakwood, the favourite among shipbuilders in centuries past for its durability, is a tight-grained hardwood with a naturally high oil content making it impervious to the constant salty wind and water, withering sunlight, and lashing rains of the untamed seas - or the wild possibilities of your own backyard. Teak weathers gracefully, maturing to an elegant, silvery gray over time.

Do you use Plantation Teak?
Yes, all of our teak is plantation grown and handmade in Indonesia. Plantation teak is replanted after cutting to ensure the future growth and survivial of the trees.

Can I see teak furniture at your location?
Yes, our warehouse is located in Te-Puna, Tauranga or you can visit our showhome in Papamoa. Simply call first to make sure someone is there to look after you. We encourage viewing’s!

What kind of maintenance does teak furniture require?
Almost none. You can just let it weather. It will age like a fine wine. Every few years you might want to lightly sand it. That will take off the slight roughness and some of the gray. Some people like to oil their teak. That doesn't hurt anything, in fact it gives it a finer, reddish look, but it does mean you have to keep it up. We recommend repeating a light oil treatment every six months. Even that's really easy, you just wipe it in with a rag. No staining, varnishing, all that mess.

What else do you do to ensure the quality of the teak furniture
We ship all our pieces to the customer fully assembled. We don't use nails or screws to assemble the furniture. We use what's called "mortised and tenon construction, which is a kind of tongue-and-groove method that also uses dowels and wedges to secure the various pieces together. Screws can loosen up as the furniture ages. Since the dowels are also made of teak, over time they really bind to the other pieces and so the furniture gets tighter instead of loosening up. You don't have the maintenance problems that you have with other kinds of construction.

Does it arrive fully assembled?
Yes - we ship all our pieces to the customer fully assembled.

Why is teak better than pine, cedar, Kwila or other woods for outdoor furniture?
Teak is a tropical hardwood that weathers well outdoors. It has oils that prevent it from absorbing too much water. It doesn't split or crack, or get spotty like other woods. It does weather, but that just makes it harder. Teak turns gray as it weathers but it doesn't get splintery - it stays smooth. It doesn't rot, it lasts a long time. Kwila is cost effective and has a high oil content, however Kwila does bleed and looses oil content, it also results in STAINED PATIO”S AND GARDENS!
